While no one at Inner City Innovators ever had the opportunity to meet Brian, we know Brian. That’s because he and his true love of 14 years, Jenneí, knew that life isn’t about what we can get out of it – life is about what we can put back into it, and the legacy we leave as a result of our generosity toward others who are less fortunate than ourselves.
Brian exemplified the essence of generosity and giving, and the legacy he left is one we want to inspire in you, in us, and in our community: it’s the gift of unconditional love and kindness toward our youth.
Brian and Jenneíi spent many years caring for young children that were not their own. There was an obvious need in the lives of the four beautiful children they fostered, and Brian made it his own personal mission to protect them.
It’s for this reason that by giving to this memorial fund, you will be helping to carry on Brian’s legacy. We will use your kind donations to facilitate our Hood Changers mentorship program, and to further our mission to end gun violence among youth aged 14-24 years old in the inner city of West Palm Beach.
Our Hood Changers will learn who Brian Petty is. They will know that he stood up for those who couldn’t stand up for themselves. And Brian will inspire and motivate our Hood Changers to overcome their obstacles, and become something more than their assumed outcomes.
We thank you for trusting us to carry out the important job of creating a legacy that honors Brian Petty’s generosity, and we do not take that task lightly. We will make the Preston and Petty families proud, and cherish Brian’s kind, endearing spirit.
Jenneí shared this lovely dedication to Brian for our Memorial Fund to benefit Inner City Innovators:
These are just a few excerpts from our natural inclination and actions toward the healing and reparenting of children and young adults. I think that each of our respective troubled childhoods, alongside the truest of loves between us is what attracted us to this work. Ultimately, I lost my beloved Brian Petty to the bottle. It was rather ironic, as none of the children we’ve taken under our wings has suffered from such an affliction. I know that he would be proud to be a part of an organization like Inner City Innovators and plan to support your vision, in his name, in any way you see fit. Thank you for the opportunity that this gives me to honor him.
